There's a lot of information to find on the internet about Koh Samui, we are just giving you the Essential flavours.
So here we go...
A tropical island, filled with palm trees, mountains with stunning sea views and white beaches, that's what Koh Samui is all about.
Even though the Island is growing, from the minute you arrive, you will be enchanted by its beauty.
For the people that have never visited Koh Samui, don't miss out on this, it is well worth spending a holiday here!!
The local population mainly consists of Buddhist Thais, who will always address you with their warm smiles and kindness.
Until the recent arrival of tourism, coconut farming and fishing were the main sources of income.
The largest and most popular beaches on Samui are Chaweng, Lamai and
Maenam.
Although dotted with bungalows and resorts, due to the length of
these beaches, they never feel too crowded.
For those seeking quieter spaces,
there are many other beaches to choose from such as Natien, Tongsai Bay and
Taling Ngam.
Other than the beaches or water sports, entertainment comes in many forms.
From Diving, Snorkeling, Sailing, Boat trips, Waterfalls,
Aquarium, Elephant
Trekking and a variety of Animal Farms,
to Temples, Mummified Monks, Nightlife
and strange Rock Formations...
There's something for everyone.
Koh Samui is fortunate that it has its own "Micro Climate" due to its geographical location and warm South China sea winds, offering a near all year round climate that suits the majority of people.
The dry season from February to late June offers temperatures regularly
reaching 35° Celsius, with slightly cooler conditions from late June to late
October.
The rainy season is from November to early weeks in December, where temperatures during this time are around 25° Celsius. Despite the odd shower here and there, there's still plenty of beach weather.
From July to October it sometimes rains off and on, but it is still pleasant as the sun pokes through and rainbows are often seen.
September and October can be a good time to visit as the island is less populated, due to the up coming wet season.
Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand, surrounded by about sixty other islands, most of which
comprise the Angthong National Marine Park, but also include other tourist
destinations Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan.
The island is roughly circular in shape, and is about 15km across.
Maybe you are one of the people that saw the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Dicaprio, which was filmed at Angthong National Marine Park.
Koh Samui is a mere 45 to 75 minute flight away from Bangkok.
Bangkok Airways services about 22 flights a day either way.
The best and safest form of transport is a self-drive, air-conditioned vehicle. Motorbikes can also be hired (be cautious of traffic hazards and wear a crash helmet!!!).
It takes about an hour to drive around the island if you don't stop along the many beaches or take some of the side tracks ( all of the rough trails crossing the mountainous interior are strictly 4WD or dirt bike trails).
